Selects Reel – Winter 2011

As staff cinematographer for Heavenly Mountain Resort, I’m lucky enough to spend six months of my year shooting skiing and snowboarding. The snow this season was amazing which helped produced some great footage and big smiles. I feel very fortunate to work with some very passionate and talented athletes. Here is a compilation of my favorite moments and shots captured from this season.

American Flats

The surrounding mountains of Virgina City represents a time in Nevada history where dreams were made or broken. Around the turn of the century, the largest silver claim in American history was found in the surrounding hills. People flocked from all over the country to Nevada with the same vision of stricking it rich. By the early 1900’s the last of the silver was extracted and the silver rush was over.

The American flats Mill was built as a last ditch effort to process remaining ore. However, there was no silver left and the mill closed a mere four years after being built. The massive concrete mill has been slowly decaying for the last 100 years. The remaining decrepit structure is an eerie place, covered in graffiti, broken glass and bullet shells, a photographers dream.
