Tamarack Lodge Opening

I have been documenting the building of the new Tamarack lodge since the end of the summer. It’s been really interesting to watch the building process, especially over the last month were it really started to take shape. Heavenly hasn’t had a new on mountain lodge in over 31 years, I definitely think it was over due. The Tamarack lodges is probably one of the nicest lodges I’ve seen in the Tahoe Basin, simple design yet well done with attention to detail. Think I found a new spot for a Beer. I’m really proud of this edit, I dug up some old 1957 footage from our Heavenly archive, which was a honor to play with. It incorporated well into this piece. From start to finish only 135 days.

Tamarack Lodge Update 12.03.10

Checked out the progress on the new Tamarack Lodge today. Looking very nice in there, as the crews are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the interior.  The new bar 9150′ is taking shape and looks like this will definitely be the new hang out on the mountain. I also interviewed Food and Beverage Director Steve Turner and got the low down on all the food choices that will be available. The new lodge will open this winter, check out how great the inside looks.

Tamarack Lodge Update

Headed up the mountain today to check out the new Tamarack lodge at the top of the gondola. Today marked the 101 day of construction, these guys are moving along at a rapid pace. Amazing job to get this lodge open for this season, especially since all material has to be brought up to 9150 feet. Check out what the inside looks like.

What’s New at Heavenly

Here is a video I shot/edited and was produced by Fred Wymore for Heavenly Mountain. There are lots of new improvements this year at Heavenly, the flagship improvement being the new Tamarack Lodge at the top of the Gondola. Also new Vail wide is Epic Mix, which reminds me of the vertical plus program that Sierra at Tahoe had back in the day. Should be fun to track my skiing stats for the season.

Snowmaking Begins at Heavenly

It’s official the west coast’s largest snowmaking system is fired up. I headed up the mountain at 6:30, driving up the Nevada side from stagecoach to the top of the Gondola. It was a beautiful morning, with some nice and cold temps. When I got to the top of the gondola it looked like mid winter, the whole top of the mountain was engulfed with snow. I have filmed snowmaking a handful of times over the past couple of seasons, this was by far the most snow I’ve seen being produced at one time.
