Snowmaking Starts at Heavenly

The team over at snowmaking just fired up the west coast’s largest snowmaking system today at Heavenly Mountain. Nice cold temps are expected the next few day and these guys are planning on pumping out the snow. For the opening sequence, I really wanted to create something different. The concept was to make a dramatic build up, like the count down of a spaceship launch.

I Live For Winter Video Series

I just finished the “I love for Winter” series which highlighted different departments around the mountain and what their employees do in the summer.
This was a concept I originally came up with last year. I think it’s a fun way to build excitement for the up coming winter season and show the great personalities that work at Heavenly.

Snowmaking Update

The snowmakers have been hard at work trying to get the mountain ready for opening day. I went up today to check out the action. Nice cold temperatures are helping out big time and as you will see in this video, snowmaking is currently going off. The crews are working on Cail trail and over on Orions.

Snowmaking Begins at Heavenly

It’s official the west coast’s largest snowmaking system is fired up. I headed up the mountain at 6:30, driving up the Nevada side from stagecoach to the top of the Gondola. It was a beautiful morning, with some nice and cold temps. When I got to the top of the gondola it looked like mid winter, the whole top of the mountain was engulfed with snow. I have filmed snowmaking a handful of times over the past couple of seasons, this was by far the most snow I’ve seen being produced at one time.

Dipper Opens

Heavenly’s snowmakers continue to cover more runs with snow. The newest run to open is Big Dipper. I went out with three models early morning and captured them ripping up the new run. Thanks to Amy McCormick, Billy Newmen and Richard Jameson for helping me get some great footage.
This was another beautiful Tahoe blue bird day however it was cold, the temperature was zero degrees during the shoot.

Snowmakers 2

We just wrapped production on the second episode of “The Snowmakers”, a web series for Heavenly Mountain Resort. Dane Henry and myself headed up the Mountain at 6am to capture the sunrise and start the day of filming with the day crew. After the some coffee and the usual truck ride up the mountain, we were greeted with 20-foot mounds of snow. Truly amazing how much snow they had produced in a couple short days. We were escorted around on snowmobiles to check out the progress on Orion’s run. Another exciting day filming and cruising around the mountain.
