Cal Trail Terrain Park

The Cal Trail Terrain Park has to be one of the best early season parks I’ve ever seen, Mike Thomas and his terrain park crew have started the season off with a bang. With all the snow this month, Mike was able to build 15 features and a three jump line, which everyone seemed to be very excited about. I met up with the Heavenly High Roller Team, Kyle Smaine, Graham Raymond, Jason Arens and Brent Whipple. This guys where shredding the early season park. Check out the action from the day.

The Storms Clear

After 5 days of pounding snow and 58 inches later, the sky’s cleared in true Tahoe fashion. Nothing like 5 feet of snow and a blue bird pow day…did I mention it’s also the day before Thanksgiving! pretty unheard of for this time of year. Also the mountain is almost completely open, giving us top to bottom skiing. Can’t wait for a day off to go out and play in the snow.

Powder Day at Heavenly

With multiple storms hitting the Tahoe area we’ve seen almost 3 feet of snow fall so far. What an awesome way to start the season. I can’t remember many Novembers here in Tahoe that we have gotten this much snow before December. Today was a tough shoot, the past storms have produced high winds creating blizzard conditions.

Opening Day at Heavenly

Super excited for this years ski season and with opening day done and in the bag, it’s official the season has began. With storms moving in to the area, we kicked off with a foot of fresh new snow. The runs were busy as everyone was up playing in the snow. I went out with 4 models and made some turns. First shoot of the season was a success.

Tamarack Lodge Update

Headed up the mountain today to check out the new Tamarack lodge at the top of the gondola. Today marked the 101 day of construction, these guys are moving along at a rapid pace. Amazing job to get this lodge open for this season, especially since all material has to be brought up to 9150 feet. Check out what the inside looks like.

Snowmaking Update

The snowmakers have been hard at work trying to get the mountain ready for opening day. I went up today to check out the action. Nice cold temperatures are helping out big time and as you will see in this video, snowmaking is currently going off. The crews are working on Cail trail and over on Orions.

First Snow

We got some snow finally. 8-12 inches of snow fell up on the mountain last night. I headed up the tram to the top of gunbarrel to grab some shots. The lake looked awesome, especially with the new snow in all the trees. The season is coming, check out this quick video from today.

What’s New at Heavenly

Here is a video I shot/edited and was produced by Fred Wymore for Heavenly Mountain. There are lots of new improvements this year at Heavenly, the flagship improvement being the new Tamarack Lodge at the top of the Gondola. Also new Vail wide is Epic Mix, which reminds me of the vertical plus program that Sierra at Tahoe had back in the day. Should be fun to track my skiing stats for the season.

Snowmaking Begins at Heavenly

It’s official the west coast’s largest snowmaking system is fired up. I headed up the mountain at 6:30, driving up the Nevada side from stagecoach to the top of the Gondola. It was a beautiful morning, with some nice and cold temps. When I got to the top of the gondola it looked like mid winter, the whole top of the mountain was engulfed with snow. I have filmed snowmaking a handful of times over the past couple of seasons, this was by far the most snow I’ve seen being produced at one time.
