Tahoe Aerials – Winter 2015

The last six months learning to fly my DJI Phantom 2 helicopter has been a blast, easily the most fun I’ve had capturing content in a long time. While I consider this little drone a powerful film making tool, I also really just enjoy flying the thing. It’s like I have a new hobby also! I hoped to use this setup to shoot skiing and snowboarding this winter, however, lack of snow in Tahoe killed that plan. But, with all the nice mild days, I’ve had plenty of optimal weather to fly in.

My favorite thing about the Phantom 2 is how portable and user friendly the setup is. I can literally pull the case out of the truck and be flying with in a matter of minutes. First, when I show up to a location, I walk around and do a basic scout. This really helps me to start figuring out the different shots and flight pattern. I don’t want to waste battery and flight time looking for the shots once I’m in the air.

Here’s some of my favorite shots from this “winter”, I shot all this footage around Lake Tahoe, locations include: Caples Lake, Fallen Leaf Lake, Glen Alpine Water falls, Skunk Harbor, Mt. Tallac.
