Aerial Water Skiing B-Roll

My good friends over at Birkholm’s water ski school in South Lake Tahoe asked me shoot some Aerial footage for their business promo video. We wanted to capture unique camera angles showing water sports action and the beauty of Lake Tahoe. I was really excited and nervous for the opportunity to fly my drone completely over water. I knew the potential to get some really cool footage, but also the risk involved. We used two boats for this shoot, one for the water skiers and one for me to film from. I used a DJI Phantom 2 drone with a GoPro Hero 3+ to shoot the aerials.

Tahoe Show 2015

It’s the third year in a row I’ve been hired to shoot and edit the highlight/sizzle reel for the NPC/IFBB Tahoe Show. The Tahoe Show is one of the largest and anticipated bodybuilding contest in Northern California and Nevada. I always have a fun time shooting this event, even though it’s some what different from what I normally shoot. I try to give an overall recap of the event, showing the competitors behind the scenes, on stage and small details that are all part of the show.

Rock Tahoe Half Marathon

I recently had the opportunity to capture the first Rock Tahoe half marathon, which starts at Spooner Summit and ends at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Stateline, NV. The assignment was to produce a 2 minute sizzle reel, that captures the energy and highlights this unique half marathon. We knew from a production stand point, logistically this was going to be a tough event to shoot. The Action was constantly moving over a 13 mile stretch and all this happens in a 3-4 hour period.

Stanford Camp Hiking Map

Fallen Leaf Lake and the surrounding Glen Alpine wilderness are some of my favorite spots to explore, and my golden retriever’s favorite spot for his nightly walks. The geographically features of this area are very diverse with rock formations, forest, open meadows and water falls. Basically, there’s always something visually stunning to look at.

Fox Sports – UFC Interviews

This past week I had the opportunity to shoot some interviews for “UFC’s Top 5 Greatest Fights”, an hour long TV show to air Fox Sports 1. The assignment was to light, shoot and record audio of various UFC fighters for the show. I loaded up my gear and headed down to Ultimate Fitness in Sacramento California, home of UFC’s Team Alpha Male. I was given very specific details for the look and framing of the interviews. It was crucial that all the different interviews throughout the show keep a consistent look and feel.

Tahoe Aerials – Winter 2015

The last six months learning to fly my DJI Phantom 2 helicopter has been a blast, easily the most fun I’ve had capturing content in a long time. While I consider this little drone a powerful film making tool, I also really just enjoy flying the thing. It’s like I have a new hobby also! I hoped to use this setup to shoot skiing and snowboarding this winter, however, lack of snow in Tahoe killed that plan. But, with all the nice mild days, I’ve had plenty of optimal weather to fly in.

Kirkwood Rahlves Banzai 2015

The Rahlves Banzai Tour is the brainchild of Daron Rahlves the most decorated ski racer in US Ski Team history. The Banzai tour takes place in Lake Tahoe, at three different ski resorts, Squaw Valley, Kirkwood and Sugar bowl. The Banzai tour is one of the most unique forms of ski racing I have ever witnessed. It reminds me of downhill ski racing, a mix of motocross and big mountain skiing. It’s a very true form of racing, four people head-to-head, the fastest person to the bottom wins. The course is all natural terrain, this isn’t a perfectly groomed race course or manicured park jump.
